LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior golfer Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week after his winning performance at the Mulekicker Fall Classic at West Point Golf Course over the weekend.
Waddell shot a 1-over-par 141 (71-70) and claimed the individual championship by defeating Rutgers' Seth Hirschhorn with a birdie on the third playoff hole. It was Waddell's third career title, with the other two coming at the 2005 and 2006 Patriot League Championships.
Last week Waddell was named the September Patriot League Golfer of the Month, and he continued the strong start to his senior year on Army's challenging course. In five fall events in 2006, Waddell has finished in the top four in four of them. He was runner-up in tournaments at both Colgate and Bucknell, and he was fourth at Cornell.
In 12 rounds this fall, he has a stellar scoring average of 72.1, and he has shot even par or better in five times with a low round of 67.
As a team, Bucknell finished in a tie for third place at Army. The Bison are back in action next Sunday and Monday at Lehigh's Don Mershon Invitational.
