LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain Academy) led the Bucknell women's golf team to a little bit of history this weekend, and for her efforts she has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week.
At the Bison Fall Classic at the Bucknell Golf Club over the weekend, Schlang shot 76-75, the latter tying her week-old career best, and won medalist honors by shots over Samantha Milosh of Saint Francis (Pa.). More importantly, her winning effort sparked Bucknell to its very first tournament team title in the nine-year history of the program.
Bucknell compiled a pair of 316s and nosed out Lehigh by a single stroke for the title. The Bison had been a tournament runner-up on three previous occasions, most recently in the spring of 2004. Schlang's clutch birdie on hole No. 17 helped ice the historic win.
Schlang is playing some of the best golf of her career this fall. Entering the year her personal best in a collegiate round was 77, but she shot 75 at the Nittany Lion Invitational the week prior to winning Bucknell's annual tournament. She has a team-best 78.7 average thus far.
Schlang is the second Bison to win an individual title. Jess Hetrich won the Bucknell Invitational in the spring of 2002.
The Bison are back in action in two weeks at the Rutgers Invitational.
