LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Emilie Hardinge (Darien, Conn./Darien) and junior Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) tallied 13 kills apiece as Bucknell rolled to a 3-0 win over Navy in Patriot League volleyball action on Friday evening in Davis Gym. The victory improved the Bison to 13-9, 4-2 in the league, while the Midshipmen slid to 8-12 (2-4, PL).
For Bucknell, Hardinge hit .345 with just thee errors in 29 attempts and added two block assists. Henderson contributed 10 digs in addition to her team-leading kills total for her seventh double-double of the season, third in the last three matches. Senior Sarah Groman (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) followed with eight kills and two blocks (1-1), classmate Amanda Grossmann (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) posted six blocks (2-4) and sophomore Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) chipped in with 38 assists and eight digs. Senior Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) headed up the Bison defense with a match-best 19 digs.
Rachel Dougherty was the lone member of the Mids to reach double-figures in kills with 11. Setter Kim Koss recorded 18 assists, Jessie Sims led Navy in digs with 16 and Nikki England totaled 10 digs.
The Orange and Blue came out in game one with a strong start to the match, quickly building a 13-4 lead on the way to a 30-14 victory behind a .400 team hitting percentage.
In game two, the Bison found themselves down by six at 23-17, when a kill by senior Jennie Smith (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) began a 13-4 run for Bucknell. The Orange and Blue completed the comeback with back-to-back kills by Henderson for the final two points of the 30-27 win.
Then in game three, Bucknell kept the momentum going by outscoring the Midshipmen, 12-3 from the start. Navy closed the gap to come within two points at 18-16, but the Bison stretched their advantage back out to eight and went on to clinch the match with a 30-22 decision.
Bucknell returns to action tomorrow, Oct. 14, when the team will play host to American in a Patriot League match, set for 7 p.m. in Davis Gym.
