LORETTO, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday night at the Stokes Athletic Center. The Bison took games one, two and four by the scores of 30-26, 30-24 and 30-27 and moved their record to 9-5 on the season while the Red Flash took only game three by the score of 30-26 and dropped to 2-13 for the year.
Junior Sarah Groman (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) led Bucknell with 10 kills and hit .318 (10-3-22) with two block assists. Classmate Kristen Sydlowski (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and sophomore Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) followed with nine and eight kills, respectively, and chipped in 16 digs apiece. Senior Chelsea Anderson (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) added 15 digs and classmate Jessica Le (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) added 28 assists.
In game one, Bucknell rallied with six-straight points to overcome a 19-14 deficit and would not trail in the remainder of the frame. The Bison took game two after opening with a 14-2 run and, after dropping game three, closed out the match by taking the last four points in game four to secure the victory. "We had a great opportunity to see a lot of different players tonight," said Bucknell head coach Cindy Opalski. "We had a solid team effort and contributions from non-starters."
Kristin Buter led Saint Francis both offensively and defensively as she posted 15 kills and 20 digs while hitting .314 in the match. Linda Donlansky tallied 12 kills and 10 digs and Keshia Gibbs registered 12 kills and hit .500. Anne Roosevelt recorded three service aces and 12 digs and setters Missi Vaughn and Lauren Parisi contributed 28 and 23 assists, respectively.
The Bison return to the court on Friday, Sept. 30, when the team will play host to Army in a Patriot League match beginning at 7 p.m. in Davis Gym.
