LEWISBURG, Pa. - Thursday's Bucknell softball non-league doubleheader at Rider has been cancelled and the Bison will now travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to face Patriot League foe Colgate instead. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Raiders' Eaton Street Field.
Bucknell and Colgate had their four-game weekend series, originally slated for April 2-3, postponed because of unplayable field conditions. The two squads played a makeup doubleheader last week with each team winning a game. Thursday's two-game set will conclude the season series between the two teams.
The Bison (12-17, 5-9 PL) will enter the doubleheader on a seven-game winning streak, which started against the Raiders last week. Bucknell swept a four-game series from Holy Cross this past weekend. Lauren Wible was the star of the weekend as she hit four home runs and drove in seven runs. She has six home runs this season to tie the Bucknell single-season mark. The Dover, Pa., native also has 12 career round trippers to equal the Bucknell career record. She leads the nation in hitting with a robust .525 average this season.
Colgate (15-16), which stands third in the Patriot League with a 7-7 conference mark, was swept in a four-game series last weekend by first-place Lehigh. The Raiders will play a non-conference road doubleheader at Niagara on Wednesday.
After playing Colgate Thursday, Bucknell will return home to face Lafayette in a four-game weekend series Saturday and Sunday. The Bison will try to clinch their second consecutive Patriot League Tournament berth against the Leopards. Bucknell holds a two-game lead in the win column over both Holy Cross and Lafayette.
