Bucknell Drops Doubleheader to Army, 6-1 in Game One, 4-2 in Game Two

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison baseball team dropped a set of Patriot League games on Saturday afternoon, falling to Army, 6-1, in game one and 4-2, in the second game, at Depew Field in Lewisburg, Pa. The Patriot League leading Black Knights improve to 20-9 overall, 8-2 in the PL, while the struggling Bison drop to 7-21 on the season, 3-7 against league opponents.
The Bison took the early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Gryskevicz led off the inning with a single followed by a bunt single by Phil Bunting. Brad Duvall laid a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to advance Gryskevicz to third and Bunting to second. Gryskevicz scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Evan Weiss. Bunting would score on a triple by Matt Capece.
Army inched back into the lead scoring their first run in the top of the fifth. Nate Stone scored the first run for the Black Knights, crossing the plate on a ground out by Chris Simmons. Army tied the game in the top of the sixth, as Milan Dinga tripled to left center and scored on a fly out by Schuyler Williamson.
The Black Knights took the lead in the seventh as Jeremy Stache scored on a single by Jason Meloy. Army put an insurance run on the board in the eighth on a solo homerun from Williamson.
Tim Peacock (1-4) took the loss after pitching eight quality innings, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out four. Army's Cole White got the win, throwing in seven innings. Dinga got the save, shutting the Bison down in the bottom of the ninth.
Army took the early lead in game one and never looked back, putting all six runs on the board before allowing the Bison their single score. Leading 3-0, White broke the game open in the top of the sixth, slamming a three-run homerun over the center field fence.
The Bison put their lone run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth, as Brian Day led off with a double down the right field line. Jason Buursma sent Day home with a long single down the right field line. The Black Knights put a quick stop to the Bison rally, as Gryskevicz hit into a double play.
Nathan Mittag pitched all seven innings of game one and ended up with the loss to fall to 0-4 on the year. Army's Nick Hill moved to 6-1 on the season, holding the Bison to only five hits for the game.
The two teams will tangle again tomorrow with another doubleheader at Depew Field. The first pitch of game on is scheduled for 12 p.m.
