Bucknell Men's Tennis Wraps Up Patriot League Play with 5-2 Home Loss to Lehigh

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak snapped as it fell to Lehigh 5-2 Friday afternoon in its final Patriot League match of the season. The Bison fell to 7-12 overall and 1-5 in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks improved to 7-10 overall and picked up their first league win against three losses.
Ira Reibeisen and Asher Salam improved to a team-best 4-4 at one doubles with an 8-5 victory over Ty Esler and Randall Smalley. Reibeisen and Salam have combined to go 7-5 overall at doubles this season. Despite that victory, the Bison lost the doubles point by dropping the other two doubles matches. Nick Denefrio and Joe Menezes dropped an 8-4 match to Andrew Shapiro and John Nespoli at two doubles, while John Lashnits and Ben Young fell by the same score to Ryan Lloyd and Brad Nelson at three doubles.
Reibeisen and Lashnits posted Bucknell's two wins in singles play, but each had to go to three sets. After losing the first set 6-0 to Smalley at two singles, Reibeisen battled back to win the second and third 6-4, 7-6 (4). It was his team-high 11th dual-match victory this year and his 20th overall.
Lashnits picked up his win by defeating Alfredo Fernandez-Concha 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 at four singles. It was his 17th singles victory this year, including tournament play, the second-highest figure on the squad behind Reibeisen.
All four of Lehigh's singles victories were just two sets, but Gerald DiChiara battled hard at five singles for the Bison before falling to Brad Nelson 6-3, 7-6 (1).
Despite wrapping up its Patriot League slate, Bucknell still has four matches remaining on its schedule this year. The Bison will return to the courts Saturday, April 16, at Villanova. That match is set for a 2 p.m. start. Bucknell's final home match of the season will take place Wednesday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m. against local foe Bloomsburg.
