Bucknell Womens Lax Drops Season Opener at Longwood, 14-5

FARMVILLE, Va. - Isa Cohen scored five goals and added an assist to lead Longwood to a 14-5 victory over Bucknell in the season openers for both teams, spoiling the debut of first-year Bison coach Jess Spadafora. Amy Lee registered a goal and two assists for the Bison.
After Emily Burman opened the scoring on a free position shot just 2:36 into the contest, the Lancers, coming off a 14-1 season, blitzed Bucknell with 12 straight goals in a 20-minute span. Sophie Dress and Kathleen Barry each scored twice in just over three minutes, and by the time Leanne Kibler scored at the 23:49 mark Longwood had a commanding 12-1 lead.
Freshman Elizabeth Whipple potted her first collegiate goal in the final minute of the half to make it 12-2 at intermission. The Bison settled down in the second half, outscoring Longwood 3-2 on the strength of goals by Andrea Paraud, Lee, and freshman Lauren Deitrich.
Bison goalie Lizzy McDaniel had a tough day, allowing 11 goals in 22 minutes. Kristin Gaines was solid in relief, making a career-high seven saves while allowing just three goals in 38 minutes.
Emily Wilson finished with six saves for the Lancers, who outshot Bucknell 26-15 and won 13 of the 21 draws.
Bucknell has another tough test on Friday, March 4, when it visits Penn State at 6 p.m.
