Amanda Grossmann Named to Academic All-District First Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior middle hitter Amanda Grossmann (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was named to the ESPN The Magazine 2005 Academic All-District II University Division Volleyball First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today.
Grossmann becomes the 10th player in Bucknell volleyball history to earn the award and her selection marks the fifth-straight year the Bison have been represented on the District II All-Academic volleyball teams.
Grossmann has seen action in all 29 matches for the Orange and Blue this season with 27 starts, appearing in 103 out of a possible 104 games. She currently leads the squad with a .237 hitting percentage, which ranks 11th in the Patriot League. Grossman is averaging 1.67 kills per game, has 56 total blocks on the year and ranks fifth and third among the Bison players in those categories.
As a sophomore, Grossmann appeared 100 games over 27 matches. She finished fourth on the squad with 143 kills and led the team with 61 blocks. She has recorded a career-high 12 kills on two occasions, most recently reaching the total in Bucknell's 3-1 win over Canisius on Sept. 17. Her career-best eight blocks came in her sophomore season against Lafayette.
Off the court, Grossmann has excelled academically, posting a cumulative GPA of 3.89 as an elementary education major. She is a Dean's List student and a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection. Grossmann is also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, has been nominated to join Omicron Delta Kappa and volunteers her time to read to preschoolers through the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
