SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Bucknell volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 decision to Sacramento State in non-conference action at the Hornets Nest on Sunday. With the loss, the Bison fell to 12-7 on the season while the Hornets improved to 14-7. Sacramento State took the games by the scores of 30-23, 30-12 and 30-14.
Sophomore Jenna Henderson (Elk Grove, Calif./Laguna Creek) led Bucknell with nine kills and two service aces while also contributing 13 digs. "The stats weren't a strong indication of how well we played in the first two games," said Bucknell head coach Cindy Opalski. "I was pleased with our defensive effort and with how we came out in the beginning of the match. We'll put the loss in our pocket as a lesson to be learned."
Atlee Hubbard tallied a match-high 13 kills to lead the Hornet's offense along with 12 digs. Lindsay Haupt recorded eight kills, while Rose Burke and Natalie Melcher compiled 26 and 14 assist totals, respectively. Kristin Lutes headed up the defense for Sacramento State with 18 digs and Jennifer Ferguson chipped in with 10 digs.
The Bison continue their California trip with a match against the University of San Francisco on Monday, Oct. 10, at 10 p.m.
