LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore first baseman Lauren Wible (Dover, Pa./Dover) earned a spot on the 2004 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II University Division Softball Team, announced on Thursday, May 13. With her selection to the squad, Wible is now a finalist for national CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, announced on June 3.
To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
Wible is the only sophomore on the all-district team which takes three outfielders, three pitchers, six infielders, one designated hitter and one catcher.
After an impressive rookie campaign, Wible showed no signs of suffering through a sophomore slump. The lefty made her second-straight appearance on the All-Patriot League Second-Team after batting a career-high .344 this season. A starter in every game of her career, including 40 this year, the first baseman bettered her first-year totals for hits (44) and RBI (22), while matching her numbers from a year ago with eight doubles and three home runs. She put together a six-game hit streak earlier this season, and recorded 11 multiple hit games. Wible's .992 fielding percentage was tops on the team, as she committed just three errors in a team-high 368 chances.
In addition to all of her accolades on the diamond, Wible has maintained a 3.77 GPA in English over her first three semesters. A Dean's List student and member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, she is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
The Bucknell softball team finished the season with a 14-26 overall record, and a mark of 8-12 in the Patriot League. The squad advanced to the conference tournament for the first time since 2000, entering the field as the fourth-seed. The Orange and Blue fell 5-0 to eventual champion Lehigh in the opener, and were eliminated from the championship with a 3-1 loss to last year's conference champion Colgate.
