LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior softball player Angela Stackhouse (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) has been named the Lewisburg Hotel Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 25, 2004. Stackhouse led the Bison to a 5-1 week, including a four-game sweep of Patriot League rival Holy Cross that earned the squad a berth in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
Stackhouse has put together the most successful season of her career, batting .404 to lead the team. The tri-captain has collected a hit in all but seven of BU's 36 games this year, and has never gone more than one game in a row without a hit. Her 34 RBI and six homeruns are not only career-highs, but both numbers tie the Bucknell single-season mark for that statistic.
On the week, Stackhouse batted .500 with nine hits in 18 at bats. In two games against Rider, the catcher was 5-for-8 at the plate, including the game-winning hit in a 2-1 victory over the Broncs. She came out against Holy Cross, a team Bucknell needed to win three of four games against to earn a spot in the Patriot League playoffs, and batted 4-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI, in three-straight victories for the Orange and Blue, clinching the playoff berth.
Stackhouse was held without a hit in the fourth and final game against the Crusaders, but the Bison still won 7-4 for the four-game sweep. The game snapped her eight-game hit streak, just one shy of her season-high from earlier in the season.
Bucknell is 13-23 overall and finished the year 8-12 in conference play. The Orange and Blue close out the regular-season with a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 27, before heading to Lehigh to face the top-seeded Mountain Hawks in a 9 a.m. game in the first round of the tournament.
