ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Despite a team-high 13 kills from Jackie Leahy, the Bucknell volleyball team dropped its second straight match on the Patriot League's southern swing, falling 3-1 at Navy on Saturday. The Bison, who lost in three games to American on Friday night, fell to 13-11 overall and 7-5 in Patriot League play and saw their cushion for third place in the league standings reduced to just one game over Navy.
The Mids (18-8, 6-6), led by 20 kills from Ashley VanHartesvelt, avenged a four-game loss to the Bison earlier this season, prevailing 23-30, 30-27, 30-19, 31-29.
Leahy was the only Bison to record double-figure kills, and the senior co-captain also added seven digs. Fellow co-captain Carolyn Dougherty led the team with 10 digs. Jennie Smith enjoyed one of her top matches of the season, tallying nine kills, a .400 hitting percentage and a match-high six total blocks.
Jessica Le led all players with 42 assists and added six digs, while Jenna Henderson chipped in eight kills and Amanda Grossmann seven.
Navy outhit Bucknell .222 to .151, including an accurate .423 mark in game three. Beth McArthur had nine kills, 10 digs and five blocks while hitting .429 for the hosts. Diane Sheldon added 11 kills.
Bucknell closes out the regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend. The Bison host second-place Army on Friday at 7 p.m., then entertain sixth-place Holy Cross on Senior Day on Saturday at 4 p.m.
