LEWISBURG, Pa. - Jackie Leahy belted a match-high 15 kills and Jenna Henderson hit .545 with 13 kills to lead Bucknell to a three-game sweep of Lehigh in a Patriot League volleyball match at Davis Gym Friday evening.
Now 12-9 this season, the Bison solidified their hold on third place in the Patriot League as they improved to 6-3 in conference matches. The Mountain Hawks, who Bucknell defeated 3-0 earlier this year in Bethlehem, Pa., fell to 2-18, 1-8 in the Patriot League.
The Bison jumped out to large early leads in each of the first two games, but had to stage a comeback in the third game to sweep, as they won by 30-24, 30-26 and 30-27 scores. In the first game, behind five kills from Henderson, Bucknell held an early 12-4 lead and didn't allow the Mountain Hawks to get closer than six points until they narrowed it to 29-24. The second game saw the Bison streak out to a 7-1 lead before holding Lehigh off at the end. In the final game, the Mountain Hawks opened up a 3-0 lead before Bucknell could register a point. However, the Bison stormed back to take the lead on their way to a 30-27 advantage.
Bucknell hit .302 as a team and three players tallied hitting percentages of at least .400. Joining Henderson above .400 were Leahy and Chelsea Robertson. Leahy hit .542, while Robertson recorded nine kills and hit .400.
In addition to her kills, Leahy reached double figures in digs, totaling 14 to tie Carolyn Dougherty for match-high honors.
Jessica Le registered 43 assists to increase her season total to 745. She is just 76 assists away from breaking into Bucknell's top five single-season list.
The Bison won the service ace battle 10-4, with three different players notching at least two aces apiece. Carolyn Dougherty led the way with four aces.
Michelle Schwendenmann led Lehigh with 14 kills and 12 digs. She also hit a team-high .324 as the Mountain Hawks hit just .234 as a squad.
Bucknell returns to the Davis Gym floor Saturday, Oct. 30, to face Lafayette. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. The Leopards defeated the Bison for the first time in 17 tries earlier this year.
