LEWISBURG, Pa. - Jenna Henderson belted a match-high 13 kills and Jackie Leahy hit .533 with eight kills to lead Bucknell to a three-game sweep of undermanned Colgate in a Patriot League volleyball match Wednesday night at Davis Gym.
Now 11-8 overall, the Bison moved into sole possession of third place in the Patriot League with a 5-3 conference record. The Bison hit .362 as a team, their second-highest mark of the season, and all 14 healthy players recorded at least a kill, dig or block.
Colgate, playing with only six players in uniform and without the services of Patriot League digs leader Natalie Rawson, fell to 4-14, 1-7.
Bucknell sprinted to quick leads in all three games and won by scores of 30-16, 30-23 and 30-20. The Bison hit .419 as a team in game one, .355 in game two and .312 in the final set, and they finished the match with only nine hitting errors in 94 attempts.
After erring on two of her first three attempts of the night, Henderson did not commit an attack miscue the rest of the way and finished at .440 for the night. Leahy, who was honored before the match for reaching the 1,000-kill milestone last week against Navy, played only the first two games of the match and did not have an error in 15 swings.
Leahy moved into a tie for fifth place alongside Katie Steele (1992-95) on Bucknell's all-time kills list with 1,064. She needs 32 more to catch Brandi Trapasso (2000-03) for fourth place.
Jennie Smith had six kills and hit .455, while Chelsea Robertson added five kills and Becky Fisher four. Amanda Grossman and Tessa Mendez logged three apiece. Jessica Le dished 29 assists, while backup setter Allison Brady added five. Defensively, Henderson led Bucknell with eight digs, while Leahy and Carolyn Dougherty finished with six.
Bucknell won the service ace battle 13-5, with five players notching two aces apiece. The 13 aces were one shy of a season high.
Laurel Oliver finished with 11 kills to lead Colgate, which hit .126 for the match. Allie Nichols had nine kills, six digs and three aces.
The Bison return to action next Tuesday for their final non-conference match of the regular season. Penn visits Davis Gym for a 5 p.m. start.
