Bucknell Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Bucknell volleyball team stayed perfect in the young Patriot League season with a 3-0 win over Holy Cross at Davis Gym on Saturday afternoon. Bucknell was led on offense by Jackie Leahy's 14 kills as well as Jennie Smith's 13.
The Bison charged ahead in game one, keeping the momentum to take a 30-17 win in the opening stanza. Holy Cross hit .000 for the game, while the Bison capitalized and hit .275. Bucknell kept its edge in game two, winning 30-20. The Bison had their best offensive game in the second frame, hitting .349 while the Crusaders only converted at a .100 rate.
Despite a tenacious Crusader effort in game three, Bucknell completed the sweep, 30-26. The Bison defenders kept Holy Cross at bay again, holding the visitors to an .073 percentage. The Bison hit .204 for the game, and .270 for the match. Meanwhile, Holy Cross hit .061 on the afternoon.
Defense and blocking were also strong points for the Bison, as Bucknell had nine blocks to the Crusaders' one Four players had double-digit digs for Bucknell, including Chelsea Anderson and Brandi Trapasso (15 each), as well as Chelsea Robertson (11) and Breean Trapasso (10)
"It's nice to complete a Patriot League weekend by getting that second win and the sweep. We had balanced scoring, with Leahy and Smith, and our defense was solid with four players in double-digit digs, and I'm pleased with how our blocking is coming along," Bison head coach Cindy Opalski said.
With the win, Bucknell improves to 6-8 and 2-0 in the league, and Holy Cross falls to 3-12 and 0-2 in league play.
