Lewisburg, Pa. - After the cancellation of this week's Morgan State tournament in Baltimore due to Hurricane Isabel, the Bucknell coaching staff opted to host two of the would-be participants in Baltimore's tournament, Stony Brook and Buffalo. Unfortunately for the Bison, the visitors took both matches they played against Bucknell.
In the first match of the day, Buffalo defeated Bucknell 3-0. The Bulls took an early advantage in game one, which would be the closest match of the day, winning it 30-23. Buffalo also won game two, 30-20, and game three, 30-19. The Bison were led by Jackie Leahy, who hit .286 with 11 kills. Defensively, Breean Trapasso had the high total, with 10 digs.
The Bison then let their visitors face off, with Stony Brook prevailing in a five-game match. The Seawolves took game one, 30-27, but Buffalo evened the score by winning game two, 30-20, and took an advantage by winning an extended game three, 32-30. Stony Brook came back and won the match with victories in game four, 30-24, and game five, 15-11.
Bucknell resumed play in the evening match against Stony Brook. Though the Seawolves won the opening frame, 30-25, the Bison came within one game of breaking even on the day, by winning game two, 30-26, and game three, 30-28. Stony Brook, however, won the Bison scramble by prevailing in game four, 30-25, and game five, 15-12.
All-Tournament Team honors went to Brandi Trapasso and Breean Trapasso for Bucknell, Tesha Harry and Rachel Goldsmith for Stony Brook, and Amy Brown and Lindsay Matikosh for Buffalo.
With the losses, Bucknell falls to 4-7, while Buffalo now stands at 5-6 and Stony Brook at 4-8. Bucknell will play again at Penn on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
