Bucknell's Powell and Garcia Awarded Weekly Track and Field Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's outdoor track and field athletes, Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) and Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) were awarded weekly honors on Tuesday, April 8. Powell received the Bull Run Inn Bison Athlete of the Week award, and Garcia was honored the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week.
Thanks to 26 points from the legs of Powell in the team's first scoring meet of the spring, the Bison picked up 63 points to edge sixth-place Rhode Island by just one point. Penn State won the meet with 192 points.
Powell posted two first place marks and one third place tally at the Colonial Relays at William and Mary. He crossed the line first in the 100-meter with a time of 11.00. The junior also leaped 23'11.75" in the long jump to receive a gold medal. In the 200-meter dash, Powell clocked in at 21.80 for a third place honor.
Garcia received a silver medal in the hammer at the Colonial Relays. The senior's throw of 165'8" qualified her for the ECAC championships. The women's track and field team placed seventh out of 18 teams in the meet.
The Bison will host the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 11-12 in Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium. On Friday, the distance carnival will begin at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, the field events will begin at 10:30 a.m., while the running events will have a start time of noon.
