December and January Females Recongized as Athletes of the Month

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Five female Bison athletes were named the Athlete of the Month Award for their respective sport for the months of December and January. The five outstanding athletes included Desire Almind and Molly Cream for basketball, Amy Calvo and Tolulope Fayanjoula for indoor track and field and Jamie Flick for swimming.
The December and January awards were announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Thursday, Feb. 6. Sponsored by K.I.C.K.S. Marshall Arts for Women and Curves for Women, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time.
Creamer, now with 2,226 career points, had a record-setting month in January. At 2,076 career points, she broke the Patriot League all-time scoring record, and in the same game Creamer broke the PL single-season consecutive free-throws made record, making 34. She broke the Bucknell all-time scoring record with her 2,113-career point. On Friday, Jan. 31, Creamer broke Colgate's home court single-game scoring record with 37 points.
Almind is the third leading scorer for the Bison with 212 points for the season. She averages 15.1 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. The junior needs 63 points to become the 14th player in school history, and the fifth player in the last four years, to eclipse 1,000 career points.
The Bucknell women's basketball team starts the 2002-03 season with a 9-10 overall record and 4-3 in the Patriot League. The Bison will start the second half of the league season when they visit American on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a 3:15 p.m. start time.
Flick has seven individual gold medals and assisted the Bison relay with six first place finishes for the 2002-03 regular season. Against Lafayette, Flick finished first in the 100-freestyle with a time of 55.99. Captured the gold in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:26.44. Marked her seasons best in the 100-breaststroke against Lehigh (1:05.97). Flick was named Female Patriot League Swimmer of the week on Jan. 21. The Bison completed the regular season with a 7-0 record and will host the Patriot League Championships in Kinney Natatorium on Feb. 20-22.
Calvo set a new school record in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:15.01 at the U.S. Coaches Association meet at Penn State. She has also moved up on the Bucknell all-time charts in the 400-meter with a time of 57.26, which was marked at the National Invitational.
Fayanjuola has been a key player for the Bison in the 55-meter dash, long jump and high jump. She accomplished fifth all-time best time of 7.37 in the 55-meter dash at the Bison Open on Jan. 31-Feb.1. The sophomore improved her long jump to mark 18'4.25" and now stands fourth on the all-time charts. In the high jump, Fayanjuola marked ninth all-time with a clearing of 5'4.25".
The indoor track and field teams are closing in on the Indoor Patriot League Championships, Feb. 22-23. The Bison finished first in their own Bucknell Octagonal on Jan. 25. The Orange and Blue placed sixth out of 11 teams in the U.S. Coaches Association Track Meet at Penn State. Bucknell will travel to participate in the Kent State Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The next Women's Sport Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Mar. 6 at noon.
