THIS EVENING'S GAME: After a 69-64 victory over Coppin State to get things started in the wins column, the Bucknell women's basketball team will look to make it two in a row with a victory over visiting Bowling Green.
The Bison are closing out a three-game homestand with this evening's game. BU only has one other home stretch longer than this one, when it hosts Patriot League opponents Colgate, Holy Cross, American and Lehigh in four consecutive games at the end of January and beginning of February.
THE SERIES: This evening's game marks the first series meeting between Bowling Green and Bucknell.
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN: The Falcons have posted a 2-2 record through their first four games of the season. Bowling Green opened the year with a 79-67 loss at Youngstown State before hosting Detroit for a 77-53 victory. The Falcons took the road again for the Islander Classic at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, defeating Southeast Missouri State, 70-60, in the opener and dropping a 68-59 decision to the host team in the championship game.
Bowling Green fields a young squad, starting three freshmen and two seniors. In fact, three of BGSU's top four scorers are rookies. Senior Stefanie Wenzel leads the team with 14.3 ppg, followed by freshmen Megan Thorburn (11.8), Ali Mann (11.5) and Liz Honegger (8.8). Mann also leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game.
ALMIND SETS SOJKA REBOUND RECORD: Senior Desire Almind has established herself as a rebounding force in the past one-plus season. The 6-0 guard/forward averaged a career-best 9.0 caroms per game last year, and is pulling them in at a 12.3 rpg clip this season.
On Sunday, against Coppin State, Almind set a Sojka Pavilion record with 18 rebounds against the Lady Eagles, besting the old mark of 17 held by 2003 Lehigh graduate Anne Tierney and set in the Sojka Pavilion opener on January 15, 2003. The rebound total was just one shy of Almind's career-high.
