WEST POINT, N.Y. - Brandi Trapasso claimed the Patriot League and Bucknell all-time record for digs in a career tonight in a 3-1 win over Army. Trapasso now has 1,482, topping Susie Teitsworth's record of 1,474 set in 1996.
Trapasso also became just the fifth player in school history to record 1,000 career kills as she helped the Bison improve to 8-1 in the Patriot League and 12-9 overall. The Bison are in second place in the Patriot League standings, one game back of American.
Jackie Leahy led all participants with 22 kills and hit .327, while Trapasso added 14 and hit .357. Trapasso now has 1,001 career kills.
Jennie Smith added 10 kills, while Jessica Bissett hit .353 with eight kills. Defensively, Trapasso was outdug by Chelsea Anderson, who had 23. Breean Trapasso had 12 digs as well.
The Bison won game one, 30-25 and held Army to a .083 hitting percentage while scoring at a .216 rate on their own part. But the Black Knights had their best game of the evening in game two, hitting .357 and taking the frame 30-28.
Bucknell regained defensive momentum in game three and held Army to its lowest success rate on the night, just .051, while the Bison hit .244 and won the game 30-22. Bucknell closed out the match with a 30-28 game four win after battling back from a 23-17 deficit.
"I think mentally we got over a big hurdle tonight," said Opalski, whose team is now 3-1 on the road in league play this season. "We got behind in the fourth game but got focused and really became the aggressors late in the match."
Army's top hitter was Rachael Travis, who had eight kills with two errors on 16 attempts for a .375 percentage. Caitlin Machon and Sara Fields had 11 kills each for the Black Knights.
The Bison will be visitors again next weekend, this time at Lafayette on Oct. 31 and at Lehigh on Nov. 1. Bucknell swept both teams in the first weekend of October in Davis Gym.
