Bucknell Women's Tennis Competes at Patriot League Individual Championships

Bethlehem, Pa. - Bucknell's Veronica Brown, Tanya Sichko, and Chelsea Mills advanced to the semifinals of their respective singles flights on day one of the Patriot League individual championships held at Lehigh University. The trio was a part of eight singles athletes and two doubles teams to represent Bucknell in Bethlehem, Pa.
Brown defeated Chloe Lipp of Colgate in the first round of flight one singles, 6-3, 6-2, and followed it up with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rachel Samson of Lehigh. She will play top-seeded Katarina Kollarova of American in the semifinals tomorrow. Sichko advanced in flight two with a first-round bye and a 6-4, 6-1 win over Maria Anorga of Lehigh in round two. She will face Melanne Bundoc of Army in the semifinals tomorrow. Mills advanced in flight three by beating Leah Gaunt of Army in the first round, 6-1, 6-1, and Allison Stoloff of Colgate, 6-1, 6-1 in round two. She will face the flight's second seed, Ali Kelley of Lafayette in semifinal action tomorrow.
Among Bucknell's other entrants, Rheanna Gaskin dropped her first-round flight-one singles match to Jamie Maldow of Colgate, 6-1, 6-2, while Samantha Berthod fell 7-5, 6-1 to Jessica Fede of Colgate in flight two. Rebecca Kral lost to Rebecca Smalley of Colgate, 6-1, 6-1 in flight three, and Kelly Porter lost to Ashley Donohue of Lehigh, 6-1, 6-1 in flight four. Also in flight four, Jill Merselis lost to Francesca Murasko-Blank of Lehigh, 4-6, 6-3, (10-1). All five of those Bucknell entrants will compete in back draw matches tomorrow.
In doubles, Gaskin and Berthod lost to Chez Saricas and Lisa Fung-Kee-Fung of Lafayette, 8-4 in flight one, and Brown and Sichko lost to American's Kollarova and Julia Colarusso, 8-2 in flight one after receiving a first-round bye.
In flight two doubles, Mills and Kral advanced to the semifinals with an 8-6 win over Lyndsey Nott and Christine Bicksler of Army. Merselis and Kelly Porter fell to Colgate's Smalley and Lindsey Suffredini, 8-3 in a second-round match following a first-round bye. Brown/Sichko and Porter/Merselis will continue competition in the back draw.
