LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three female Bison athletes were named the Athlete of the Month Award for their respective sport for the month of August. The three outstanding athletes for the month of August included Kate Ruda for field hockey, Jennifer Wrigley for volleyball and Meghann Chipko for soccer.
The awards were announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Thursday, Sept. 5. Sponsored by K.I.C.K.S. Marshall Arts for Women and Curves for Women, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time.
Ruda, a third year participant with the Orange and Blue, is also a two-year letter winner. She has started in three games for Bucknell this season and has been a strong leader in the defensive end of the field. The field hockey team heads into the weekend with a 0-3 record. Playing three games in a span of five days, the Bison have seen three one-goal losses with two games going into overtime. The Bison will play host to Patriot League contender Colgate, Saturday, Sept. 7 at noon.
Wrigley is a fourth year participant with the Bison and a three-year letter winner. She has played in 13 games (three matches) for Bucknell this season and has been a steady force on the court. With 36 kills so far this season, Wrigley is third on the team in that category. The volleyball team heads into the weekend with a 1-2 record. The Bison will play in the Stony Brook Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8.
Chipko is a second year participant with the Bison and a one-year letter winner. She has started in both Bucknell's games this season. The soccer team heads into the weekend with a 1-1 record. The Orange and Blue will travel to Marist College on Sunday, Sept. 8 for a 2 p.m. contest.
The next Women's Sport Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3 at noon.
