LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Eric Junge, a 1999 Bucknell graduate and a recent call-up of the Philadelphia Phillies, earned his first major-league victory Saturday with five strong innings in a 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Junge, a righthander who went 12-6 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, allowed only an unearned run while striking out five in the win. He gave up four hits and walked four while replacing injured starter Brandon Duckworth in the Phillies rotation.
Junge made his major league debut in relief on Wednesday, Sept. 11, allowing a run on two hits against the Florida Marlins. He also recorded a strikeout and induced a double play in a 9-2 victory.
He is the first Bucknell graduate to appear in the major leagues since Bob Keegan's six-year career with the Chicago White Sox ended in 1958. Junge is believed to be the 28th Bucknellian to play major league baseball.
