Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Recruiting Class Announced

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have 20 incoming freshmen joining the Bison this fall. The Class of 2006 includes nine men and 11 women hailing from seven states.
The women's recruiting class is comprised of eight swimmers and three divers. Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y.) will primarily swim backstroke and freestyle events for the Bison. Altman was a New York Section 3 200 Freestyle Champion throughout her high school career, as well as a two-time champion in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle. She was awarded Swimmer of the Meet honors in 1999 and 2000. She was a finalist in the 100 backstroke at the New York State Championships.
Melissa Capparell (Bridgewater, N.J.) will contribute to Bucknell women's squad in the butterfly, breastroke and IM events. Capparell was a YMCA National Qualifier in 1998 and 1999. She was a finalist in multiple events at the Somerset County Championships, Skyland Conference Championships and the Pirate Invitational Championships. Capparell is also a Bridgewater High School record holder.
Jamie Finkelman (Warwick, R.I.) will help the Bison in the IM, breastroke and freestyle events. Finkelman was a First Team All-Rhode Island selection in 2002, as well as a second team all-state choice in 2000. Finkelman was awarded the Patrick J. Kennedy Award in recognition of her swimming accomplishments, an award given by the U.S. House of Representatives.
Victoria Fritz (Saint Louis, Mo.) will also compete for Buckell in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Fritz was a Missouri State Diving Championships participant throughout her high school career. She also completed at the Junior Olympics Regional Diving Competition on three separate occasions.
Mary Krakowski (Erie, Pa.) will swim both butterfly and freestyles events for Bucknell. Krakowski is a three-time All American (200 Free Relay - 2001, 200 Medley Relay - 2002, 100 Butterfly - 2002). She was a finalist at the PIAA Championships in the 100 butterfly and 200 medley relay. Krakowski was captain of the McDowell High School Swim Team and recipient of their Swimmer of the Year Award.
Ainsley Maloney (Kingston, Pa.) will compete in the one and three-meter diving events at Bucknell and provide additional talent and depth to the Bison squad. Maloney is a three-time PIAA District 2 Champion and a three-time PIAA Championship Qualifier. She was awarded the PIAA District 2 Diver of the Year honor and she is the District 2 record holder for 11 dives on the one-meter board.
Amanda Nogic (Kingston, Pa.) will add speed and depth to the Bison squad in the breastroke, freestlye and IM events. Nogic, a captain of the Wyoming Valley West High School swim team, was a PIAA 2 Champion in the 100 breastroke and the 400 freestyle relay. She was also a District 2 finalist in the 100 freestlye and is a record holder in the 400 freestyle relay. Nogic was a PIAA Championship Qualifier and an Academic All-America recipient.
Lauren Reed (South Plainfield, N.J.) will compete for the Bison in the butterfly and sprint freestlye events. Reed was a YMCA All-America honoree and a member of two relay teams that finaled at the YMCA Long Course National Championships. She was the MVP of the Mount Saint Mary Academy Swim Team for two years and both an all-county and all-area selection.
Lisa Rockwell (Lavell, Pa.) will dive for the Bison this fall. During her senior year, Rockwell was the Schuylkill League Champion and a PIAA district medalist and PIAA Championship qualifier. Rockwell was awarded first team all-county honors. She was the 2002 North Schuylkill High School Female Scholar Athlete, as well as a varsity letterwinner in track and field, soccer, cross country and diving.
Vanessa Scaringi (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) brings speed and depth to the IM, breastroke and freestyle events. Scaringi was a 2001 sectional finalist in the 400 IM and 200 breastroke. She is a Florida High School State Swimming and Diving Championship finalist in the 100 breastroke and 200 IM in both 2001 and 2002. Scaringi is also an Academic All-America Recipient.
Erica Wild (State College, Pa.) will compete in the sprint freestyle events at Bucknell. Wild was an All-American in the 200 and 400 Freestlye Relays, as well as the 200 Medley Relay. She was a PIAA Championship Finalist in these events and a three time PIAA District Champion in the 50 freestyle. Wild was a YMCA state champion in the 400 freestyle relay and a YMCA National Championship finalist in three relays.
