LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's women's volleyball team has been placed fourth in the preseason Patriot League poll while tallying 58 points among the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The defending Patriot League volleyball champion, American, has been chosen to repeat as league victor in the preseason poll. Lehigh and Army precede the Bison for second and third place, respectively.
Bucknell returns to the court with nine returning letterwinners. Leading the Bison will be two senior members, outside hitter Jennifer Wrigley (captain) and middle blocker Melanie Ghiz. Other key returning players include Brandi and Breean Trapasso, Jackie Leahy, Chelsea Robertson, Jessica Bissett, Carolyn Dougherty and Lauren Kraus. Opalski added six new freshmen to the roster to complete an overall talented squad.
Bucknell finished the 2001 season with a 7-7 record within the Patriot League and captured a 12-13 record overall. The Bison finished fourth during the 2001 regular season and fell to American in the Patriot League Tournament semi-finals. This year, the Patriot League tournament will be held on Nov. 22-23 at the highest seeded team's home court.
