Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Picked to Finish Sixth in Pre-Season Patriot League Poll

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell tallied 30 points to finish sixth in a preseason poll of Patriot League coaches and sports information directors' for the 2002 women's lacrosse season. The Bison finished the 2001 season with a 7-8 overall record and a conference mark of 2-3, just narrowly missing the first annual Patriot League Tournament.
Lafayette, the 2001 champion and perennial powerhouse, picked up 11 first-place votes and 71 points to take the top spot in the poll. Conference newcomer, American, collected one first-place vote and tallied 50 points to earn second in the poll. Villanova, which finished second in the PL last season, was awarded two first-place votes and 48 points overall in expectation of challenging for the title.
Holy Cross was picked to finish fourth in the league this year with 45 points. The Crusaders, who posted a 13-7 overall record last season, are followed closely by Colgate with 37 points for fifth place.
Despite finishing the year on a four-game win streak, one of the nation's longest, Bucknell was picked to finish fifth ahead of Lehigh (13 pts.).

The 2002 Patriot League Championship will be held April 27-28 on the campus of the highest seed at the conclusion of regular season play.
