Bucknell Women's Indoor Track & Field Captures Patriot League Championship

Bucknell's Kevin Donner was named as the Patriot League Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
The Bison men's team finished in second place with 86 points. Army won its ninth straight indoor championship with a team score of 210.5.
Army's women's team totaled 123.16 points, while Navy (112), Lehigh (81.48), Lafayette (59.32), Colgate (51), American (18) and Holy Cross (8) rounded out the team scoring. In the men's competition Lafayette finished in third with 79.5 points, followed by Colgate (66), Lehigh (56), Navy (54), American (50) and Holy Cross (18).
Bucknell's women's team came away with four gold, seven silver and three bronze medals on the third day of competition. The Bison capitalized on the relays, winning two of the three events for a combined 24 points.
Senior Stephanie Bango and freshman Rehana Lanewala were Bucknell's top individual performers, winning two medals apiece. Bango won the gold in the 800m run (2:12.06) and took the silver in the 400m dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 56.89. That time is also the second-fastest in school history. She also anchored both the winning 1,600 and 3,200m relay teams for the second year in a row. Lanewala struck gold in the 200m dash in a time of 25.72 while earning the bronze in the 400m dash in 57.59. Both of those times are the third-best ever at Bucknell. In addition, she ran the second leg of the victorious 1,600m relay team.
Recording silver medal performances were freshman Amy Calvo and seniors Kelly McConnell, LaTonya McSwain, Chris Crowe, Samantha Klotz and Kim Zimbal. McConnell recorded a time of 5:02.34 as the runner-up in the mile, and ran on the winning 3,200m relay team. Calvo placed second in the 500m dash in 1:16.93, the fourth-fastest time in school history, while McSwain raced to a 2:13.42 clocking, second on the school's top-10 list, in the 800m run. Calvo was also part of the 3,200m relay team, while McSwain ran a leg on both the 1,600 and 3,200m relays.
Crowe was timed at 10:10.1 in the 3,000m run, and that time is the eighth-best ever at BU. Klotz tied her personal best in the pole vault by clearing 10'10", a mark that ranks in a tie for the second-best mark in school history, and Zimbal bounded 36'8 ?" in the triple jump.
Senior Shannon Maher leaped 5'5", which ties for fourth in BU history, to come away with a bronze in the high jump. Senior Becki Marshall also came in third with a 10:12.1 clocking in the 3,000m run. Her time ranks as the 10th-best in BU history.
Three other top-10 performances were turned in by the women's team. McConnell placed fourth in the 1,000m run in 2:57.76, a time that ranks sixth in school history, while sophomore Laura Schaffer posted the seventh-best throw in school history in the shot put with a heave of 40'8 ?". Freshman Kiley MacDonald came in fourth in the 55m hurdles in 8.54, tying the eighth-best time ever at Bucknell.
Junior Nicki Piper pocketed one gold medal by running on the winning 3,200m relay team.
Bucknell's men's team was paced by junior Greg Costello on day three. Costello edged out Matt Seymour of American University by 0.12 seconds to win the gold in the 3,000m run in 8:24.40. It was Costello's second medal of the championships after earning the silver in the 5,000m run on day two.
Two other Bison took home a pair of bronze medals on the final day of competition. Sophomore Aaron Hanlon placed third in the 800m run in 1:55.90, while senior P.J. Ward took third in the 1,000m run in 2:28.13.
Both teams will continue their indoor season on March 2-3 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
