LEWISBURG, Pa. - Brandn Green's 15-5 major decision over Joe Gartiser in the final bout of the day gave Bucknell a narrow 25-23 victory over visiting Binghamton Sunday afternoon in Davis Gym.
In its final home contest of the season, Bucknell (2-7) never led until Green's convincing win at 141 pounds. The Bison junior rode three takedowns and three back points to a 9-2 first-period lead, then added a takedown and reversal over the final two periods bring Bucknell from behind.
Binghamton (4-10) sprinted to a 14-0 lead by winning the first four matches of the day, including major decisions from Joe Privitere in the opening 149-pound bout and Ron Foster at 165. At 157, Bucknell's Rocky Miller prevented a major with a last-second escape, as Beau Bruno settled for three points in a 14-7 decision.
Brian Neuman got the Bison on the board with a 4-3 win over Jeff McAveney at 184, and Binghamton forfeited at 197 to make it 14-9. Brian Falciglia, normally a 197-pounder, moved up to heavyweight but lost 5-3 to the much larger Craig Tefft.
A double forfeit at 125 and a Bearcat forfeit at 133 made it 23-21 heading into the final match. Green needed only 45 seconds to score his first takedown and assume control of the match.
