LEWISBURG, Pa. - Two significant areas of Bucknell University's new Recreation and Athletics Center will be formally dedicated in ceremonies slated for this weekend.
Friday evening at 8 p.m. the Arthur D. Kinney Jr. Natatorium will be dedicated in conjunction with a dessert reception in the aquatics facility. Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m., prior to the Bucknell-Fordham football game, the Krebs Family Fitness Center will be dedicated.
Kinney Natatorium, which opened just last month and has already been the site of two varsity swimming and diving meets, features a 50-meter-by-25-yard Olympic class pool. The facility has two movable bulkheads that allow varsity water polo, swimming and diving workouts, along with recreational swimming, to occur simultaneously. Kinney Natatorium also includes comfortable seating for 500 spectators, new locker room and office space, and a steam room and sauna.
The Krebs Fitness Center was one of the first portions of the Recreation and Athletics Center to come online, opening on Oct. 4. More than 15,000 square feet of the front portion of the facility has been dedicated to strength and fitness equipment. The fitness center has been well-received, and well-used, in its first month. In addition to the fitness stations, a "Bison Stop" nutrition bar and caf? are located just off the main lobby.
Kinney, who resides in Lake Barrington Shores, Ill., graduated from Bucknell in 1956. He has been a trustee of the university since 1985.
Robert and Anne Krebs, from Lake Forest, Ill., are the parents of two Bucknell graduates -- Robert '96 and Duncan '01.
