September Females Recognized As Athletes Of The Month

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Four female Bison athletes were named the Athlete of the Month Award for their respective sport for the month of September. The four outstanding athletes for the month of September included Lindsey Gentel for field hockey, Melanie Ghiz for volleyball, Theresa Dennis for cross country and Tara Utchel for soccer.
The awards were announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Thursday, Oct. 3. Sponsored by K.I.C.K.S. Marshall Arts for Women and Curves for Women, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time.
Gentel is a third year participant with the Bison and a two-year letter winner. She has started in all 10 contests the Bison have played and has tallied three shots on goal. The Bison will play host to Patriot League contender Lehigh, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
Ghiz is a fourth year participant with the Bison and a three-year letter winner. Ghiz leads the team in hitting with .227 and has marked 200 kills in 54 games. She also leads the team in blocking with .72 for the season. The volleyball team heads into the weekend with a 7-7 overall record and 1-1 in the Patriot League. Bucknell will face two Patriot League opponents this weekend. The Bison play host to American on Friday, Oct. 4 and then competed against Navy on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
Dennis is a fourth year participant with the Bison and a three-year letter winner. She has placed third in the past three meets. Dennis has finished first for the Bison during the three meets. The cross country team hosts the Gulden Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5. Women's race will begin at 10 a.m. at the Bucknell Golf Course, and the men's race will follow at 10:45 a.m.
Utchel is a fourth year participant with the Bison and a three-year letter winner. She leads the team in scoring with three goals and one assist (seven statistical points). Utchel has produced one game-winning goal for the Bison during the 2002 campaign. The soccer team heads into the weekend with a 5-4 overall record and 0-2 in the Patriot League. The Orange and Blue will host Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon.
The next Women's Sport Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7 at noon.
