Melanie Ghiz Wins Athlete of the Month

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Melanie Ghiz (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) has received the September Athlete of the Month Award for volleyball from local co-sponsors K.I.C.K.S. Marshall Arts for Women and Curves for Women.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Thursday, Oct. 3. Sponsored by K.I.C.K.S. Marshall Arts for Women and Curves for Women, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of September, as selected by their respective coaches, were junior Lindsey Gentel for field hockey, senior Theresa Dennis for cross country and sophomore Tara Utchel for soccer.
Ghiz is a fourth year participant with the Bison and a three-year letter winner. Ghiz leads the team in hitting with .227 and has marked 200 kills in 54 games. She also leads the team in blocking with .72 for the season.
The volleyball team heads into the weekend with a 7-7 overall record and 1-1 in the Patriot League. The Bison will face two Patriot League opponents this weekend. The Bison play host to American on Friday, Oct. 4 and then competed against Navy on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
