The Bucknell women had 10 first-place showings, and finished with 249 points, besting runner-up Colgate by 150 points.
In addition to the 13 first-place finishes for the men's squad, two individuals were able to break the Bucknell top-ten performers chart. Junior David Gabriel (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) ran a personal best in the 55-meter dash by blowing away the competition with a time of 6.51. This time of Gabriel one hundredth of a second better that his previous best and keeps him at 7th all-time at Bucknell. Fellow speedster, freshman Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) narrowly made the charts with a leap of 22' 8 ?" in the long jump. Powell finished second in the event and now has the tenth best leap in Bucknell history, not bad for his first time competing in the long jump.
The women's team had four individuals improve on their personal bests and move up the Bucknell top-ten performers charts. Sophomore Andrea Beisser (Ames, Iowa/Ames) finished third at the invitational in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:32.50. Beisser cracks the performers chart with the sixth fastest time in BU history. In the 55-meter hurdle's, freshman Jamie Lilien (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) pulled out a victory with a great time of 8.45. She not only earned 10 points for the Bison but also moved into third all-time at Bucknell in the event.
In non-running events, junior Andrea Nyce (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and freshman Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) finished first and third in the triple jump and the 20 lb. weight throw. Nyce's winning leap of 36' 8 ?" in the triple jump moves her into the eighth slot on the all-time charts at Bucknell. Garcia, who specializes in the weight throw, completed the event with a toss of 47' 7 ?" and now owns the third best throw in BU history.
The men's and women's indoor track & field teams will continue with their road trip as they travel to East Stroudsburg University for a meet on Sunday, February 4.
