Softball Team Picked to Finish Sixth in Preseason Poll

LEWISBURG, PA -- Bucknell tallied 15 points to finish sixth in a preseason poll of Patriot League coaches and sports information directors' for the 2001 softball season. The Bison finished the 2000 season with a 10-26 overall record and a conference mark of 2-8.
Army was picked by six of 12 voters to defeat eight-time defending Patriot League regular-season champion Lehigh in the poll. The Black Knights finished on top of the pack with 43 points in this year's preseason voting.
Lehigh, which has won the League playoff crown in five of the last eight years, gained three first-place votes and 41 points to finish second. Colgate picked up the other three first-place votes and finished with 36 points in the preseason standing to come in a close third. Rounding out the preseason voting were Holy Cross (26 points), Lafayette (19 points) and Bucknell (15 points).

The 2001 Patriot League Championship will be held April 5-6 at Patriots Park in Allentown, Pa. The Patriot League champion will then face the champion of the Northeast Conference in Play-In games to determine an NCAA representative.
