Women's Basketball Freshman Desire Almind Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman guard Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) has picked up her sixth Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor. The award was given for the games from February 12 through February 18.
Almind matched her career-high with 26 points at Army (2/14/01) in a 2-0 week for the Bison. She played 34 minutes in the Army game with a case of the flu. The 6-0 guard shot 11-18 from the floor in the game (4-for-4 from the free throw line). Against Colgate (2/17/01), Almind scored 17 points on 6-12 shooting from the field. She recorded a career-high two blocks in the contest.
For the week, Almind averaged 21.5 ppg while recording only one turnover in 67 minutes of play. She was 17-of-30 (.567) from the floor for the week and nearly perfect from the line (9-for-10, .900).
With 400 points on the year, Almind is the third-highest scoring rookie in Bucknell women's basketball history. Almind is second on the team and third in the Patriot League in scoring with 16.0 ppg.
The Bison are 19-6 overall, setting a new school record for wins in a season, and 9-2 in Patriot League play. Bucknell concludes the regular season hosting Lehigh on Wednesday, February 21, before traveling to Albany on Saturday, February 24.
