Men's Track & Field In Third And Women In Fourth After First Day of Competition at PL Indoor Championships

Annapolis, Md. - The men's indoor track & field team ends the first day of competition with 40.5 points trailing the leading team Army by 20.5. The Bison women stand in fourth with 29 points, only 22 points behind leading Lehigh.
Leading the way for the men was senior Ryan Stairs (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) who won the 35 lb. weight throw with a toss of 58' 4 1/2" in some blustery conditions. Also earning valuable points for the men were senior James Hollins (Feeding Hills, Mass./Northfield-Mt. Hermon) and freshman Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) in the long jump who finished second and third. Hollins only finished a half inch behind the leader with a jump of 23' 11 3/4". Finishing behind his teammate with a leap of 23' 8" was Powell who now owns the fourth best leap in BU history, Hollins takes over the second best jump on the BU all-time performance charts.
The Bucknell men's 4x800 relay team took second place to a strong Army team with a time of 7:40.70. Advancing to tomorrows 55m dash finals are junior David Gabriel (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) and sophomore Matt Solomon (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area).
Leading the way for the women was the 4x800m relay team of junior LaTonya McSwain (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken), junior Kelly McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville), senior Laura Ryan (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and junior Stephanie Bango (Smethport, Pa./Smethport) who won the event with the eighth best time in BU history of 9:12.96. Advancing to tomorrow 55-meter hurdles finals will be freshman Jamie Lilien (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) and junior Samantha Klotz (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional).
Tomorrow's competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Halsey Field House with the men's triple jump and the women's shot put.
