Wrestling Team Falls to Bloomsburg, 36-9

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Visiting Bloomsburg won the first six bouts, and eight of 10 in the meet, on its way to a 36-9 victory over Bucknell in college wrestling action on Thursday, February 1. Bucknell falls for the third straight time, dropping to 7-6 in dual meet competition. Bloomsburg, winning its third match in a row, improves to 3-4 overall.
Bucknell's Tommy Doerr (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was trailing nationally ranked (13) George Carter just 2-1 when Carter turned him on his back for the pin 1:40 into the match at 149 pounds. Three of the following four matches featured nationally ranked wrestlers for the Huskies as Bloomsburg built a 22-0 advantage five matches into it. At 174-pounds, Bloom's Cassidy Shults, ranked 16th in the country, handed Bison junior Ben Chunko (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) his first dual meet loss of the season and only his fourth overall on the year with an 8-3 decision.
Bucknell's first win of the night came at heavyweight when sophomore Carl Perrone (Flanders, N.J./Roxbury) picked up an 11-5 decision over Pat Spirelli. The Orange and Blue ended the meet with six points as freshman Jeremy Weller (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) won as a result of a medical forfeit at 141 pounds.
The Bison host Buffalo for a non-conference match on Saturday, February 3. The match begins at 7:30 p.m.
