LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior tri-captain Vicki Quimby (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) was 12-for-15 from the floor on her way to scoring a game-high 26 points as the Bucknell women's basketball team broke out of a five game losing streak with a decisive 89-65 victory over visiting LaSalle on Friday evening.
The Bison wasted little time in the opening 20 minutes. The Orange and Blue staked themselves to a 13-point advantage just five minutes into the contest, holding the Explorers to just two field goals during that time. Behind the strength of 16 first half points by Quimby and 12 by junior Kate Franks (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola), Bucknell carried a 45-27 lead into halftime. The Bison used the inside game to dominate the smaller Explorers, scoring nearly half of their first half points, 22, in the paint, while shooting .526 (20-38) from the floor in the frame.
Bucknell pushed its lead to 25 with seven unanswered to start the second half, and the Orange and Blue never looked back. LaSalle cut it to an 18-point deficit with 14:42 left to play, but it was all Bison from there as they went on to extend the lead to as many as 30 on three separate occasions.
BU maintained its consistency in the second stanza, shooting .640 (16-25) from the field to finish the game with a season-best .571 field goal percentage. The Bison defense did its job, holding the Explorers second-leading scorer to just three points and forcing the visitors to shoot just .361 (22-61) for the game.
Quimby was joined in double-figures scoring by three other starters. Sophomore Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) matched her season-high with 17 for the second game in a row, while Franks added 14 and junior Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) chipped in with 11.
Beth Hudak led LaSalle with 16 markers and Jill Marano chipped in 10 off the bench.
