WASHINGTON, D.C. - One day after learning that she had been honored as a Verizon District 2 Academic All-American, Bucknell senior Shannon Walker added another award to her collection this afternoon at the Patriot League Volleyball Championship banquet at American University. For the second year in a row, Walker was voted by league coaches to the All-Patriot League Volleyball First Team.
Walker was the Bison's only selection on the All-Patriot League First or Second Team. She currently ranks third in the league with 4.12 kills per game, fourth in hitting percentage at .324, and is seventh among the league leaders in blocks per game (0.77).
Walker was also a member of the All-Patriot League First Team in 2000, when she was named as the Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in both kills per game (3.71) and hitting percentage (.291).
The Bucknell volleyball team (12-12, 7-7 Patriot League) will compete in the semi-final round of the Patriot League tournament tomorrow at noon when it takes on top-seeded American University. American is serving as the host institution for the tournament after finishing the season undefeated (14-0) in Patriot League play. Bucknell came in fourth in the league to earn the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Second-seeded Lehigh and third-seeded Army will square off in the other semi-final at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the semi-final winners will meet in the Patriot League championship match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
