Walker, Trapasso Named to Verizon Academic All-America District 2 Volleyball Team

Walker, a senior, and Trapasso, a sophomore, are the first Bucknell volleyball players to earn Academic All-America recognition since Emily Pomeroy in 1997. Walker was named to the Distict 2 First Team, while Trapasso picked up Second Team honors.
Joining Walker on the District 2 First Team are Natalie Hand and Karla Kucerkova of American University, Kari Belin of Seton Hall University, Andrea LaBlanc of Towson University, and Krista Smith of West Virginia University. Along with Trapasso, Jennifer Davis of Maryland-Baltimore County, Randi Kluemper of Fairleigh-Dickison University, Solana Lee of Temple University, Melanie Madden of Towson University and Lauren Venarchik of Rutgers University were selected to the Second Team.
A two-time All-Patriot League selection, Walker is one of the finest volleyball players in Bucknell history. The Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Year last season, she is a sociology major with a 3.45 G.P.A. She currently ranks third in the league in kills per game (4.12) and fourth in hitting percentage (.324). With 1,246 kills, she stands second on Bucknell list of career leaders. The winner of the Patriot League Volleyball Scholar-Athlete award last year, she led the league in hitting and kills as a junior.
Walker is now a candidate for the Verizon Academic All-America volleyball team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The team will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 13.
A secondary education major with a 3.91 G.P.A., Trapasso has enjoyed two brilliant seasons for the Bison. Last year she was named as both the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 4.01 digs per game. Trapasso currently ranks fourth in the league with 3.20 digs per game.
The Bucknell volleyball team (12-12, 7-7 Patriot League) will compete in the semi-final round of the Patriot League tournament on Saturday at noon when it takes on top-seeded American University. American is serving as the host institution for the tournament after finishing the season undefeated (14-0) in Patriot League play. Bucknell came in fourth in the league to earn the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Second-seeded Lehigh and third-seeded Army will square off in the other semi-final at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the semi-final winners will meet in the Patriot League championship match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
