LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Shannon Walker, a middle hitter on Bucknell's volleyball team, has been named as the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7, the league announced this afternoon.
Walker averaged nearly five kills per game to lead the Bison to two wins in three league matches this week. In Tuesday's match versus Colgate, the senior contributed 15 kills to the Bucknell offense and four blocks to the Bison defense. On Friday she recorded 19 kills in 33 attempts for a .394 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win over Army. She topped off an incredible week with a 25-kill, nine-block (six solo) performance in a 3-2 loss to Holy Cross. In three matches, Walker posted a .325 hitting percentage and averaged 4.9 kills per game and 1.17 blocks per game.
Walker's 59 kills over the last three matches upped her career total to 1,106, third on Bucknell's all-time list. She needs just 41 kills to pass Emily Pomeroy for second, and she trails all-time leader Melissa Wharton by 272 kills.
The Bison will take a trip to the West Coast when they play UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 14 and Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 15.
