LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell sophomore Brandi Trapasso has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of October in volleyball.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, Oct. 8. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of October, as selected by their respective coaches, were junior Sonja Wettergreen in field hockey, senior Becki Marshall in cross country, junior Molly Campbell in golf and senior Ali Chandler in soccer.
Trapasso, a starting outside hitter for the Bison, has played an integral part in Bucknell's 9-6 (5-2 Patriot League) start this season. Last week, Trapasso posted 37 kills and 59 digs as the Bison picked up two wins in three Patriot League matches. In a 3-0 sweep over Colgate on Tuesday, Walker picked up eight digs to go with 10 kills. In Friday's 3-1 victory against Army, Trapasso notched a match-high 20 digs to go with nine kills. She wrapped up a solid week with an 18-kill, 31-assist effort in a 3-2 loss to Holy Cross. Her 18 kills marked a career-high, and her 31 digs were just one short of her own school record set twice last season.
The defending Patriot League Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Trapasso leads Bucknell and is second in the Patriot League with 3.50 digs per game. Her 0.48 aces per game rank first among the Bison and seventh in the league, and she is third on the team with 2.49 kills per game.
The Bison will take a trip to the West Coast when they play UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 14 and Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 15.
