Bucknell Rallies to Defeat Army, 3-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Shannon Walker recorded a match-high 19 kills, and the Bucknell University volleyball team rallied from a 29-27 deficit to win the fourth set and clinch a 3-1 Patriot League victory over visiting Army this evening in Davis Gym.
Bucknell (9-5, 5-1 Patriot League) continues to play well after beginning the season 3-4. Since then, the Bison have won six out of seven matches, including five of six in league play. Bucknell is also a perfect 5-0 in Davis Gym this season.
Army dropped to 4-8 and 2-3 in league play.
The Black Knights had the Bison on their heels early after winning the opening set 30-25. Bucknell began heating up late in the second set, however. The Bison closed game two with a 10-0 run to even the match at 1-1. Bucknell also hit .357 for the set while limiting Army to .028 hitting.
The Bison continued to roll in game two. After a 7-1 BU start, Bucknell saw its lead balloon to as much as 11 before winning the set 30-21.
Despite falling behind 7-3 in game four, the pesky Black Knights would not go away. Army held a 24-20 advantage and after building 29-27 lead, the team was one point away from forcing a fifth and deciding set. The Bison held firm in the end, however, closing the set with a 4-0 run to come away with the victory.
Freshman Jackie Leahy threw down 15 kills to go with 13 digs for Bucknell, while sophomore Brandi Trapasso came up with a match-high 20 digs. Senior Whitney Williams added a team-high 30 assists.
The Bison continue their Patriot League schedule tomorrow when they host Holy Cross at 7 p.m.
