Navy Defeats Bucknell Volleyball, 3-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Shannon Walker tallied match-highs of 14 kills and four blocks, but it wasn't enough as Bucknell fell to Navy 3-1 (23-30, 30-10, 28-30, 28-30) in Patriot League volleyball action Friday evening in Davis Gym.
The Bison dropped to 10-8 and 6-4 in the Patriot League with the loss, while Navy improved to 9-12 and 5-5 in league play.
Freshman Ashley Van Hartesvelt and sophomore Kristin Davidson recorded a team-high 12 kills apiece to lead the Midshipmen.
In the first game, Navy built an early 7-3 and never trailed the rest of the way. Bucknell came as close as 18-17, but the Midshipmen closed the game on a 12-6 run for a 30-23 victory.
It was all Bucknell in the second game, as the Bison went on a 12-4 tear to open the set en route to a 30-10 win to pull the match even at 1-1. BU held Navy to -.278 hitting in game two.
Navy went ahead 2-1 in game three and never relinquished its slight advantage. The Mids led by as many as six (21-15) in the set before a 7-2 Bison surge cut the gap back down to one (23-22). Bucknell would go on to tie the set at 27-27, but Navy won three of the final four points and came out on top 30-28.
Bucknell trailed by as many as four (18-14) in the fourth game, but refused to go down without a fight. The Bison put together a 6-0 run to go ahead 20-18, and BU would later tie the match at 23-23. However, Navy came through in the clutch once again and outscored Bucknell 7-5 down the stretch to hang on for the 3-1 victory.
Sophomore Brandi Trapasso aided the Bison with 10 kills and 13 digs for her ninth "double-double" of the season, while senior Whitney Williams contributed a match-high four service aces to go with 35 assists and 10 digs. Senior Kerri Bishop chipped in with 11 digs.
The Bison return home tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. to take on Patriot League front-runner American University.
