Bison Volleyball Sweeps Colgate, 3-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Shannon Walker tallied a match-high 15 kills and four blocks (three solo), and sophomore Brandi Trapasso added 10 kills as the Bucknell University volleyball team improved to 4-0 at home with a 3-0 (30-22, 31-29, 30-22) sweep over Colgate University in Patriot League action this evening in Davis Gym.
Bucknell (8-5, 4-1 Patriot League) has now won five of its last six matches after starting the season 3-4. Colgate lost its third straight match to fall to 7-11 and 1-4 in league play.
In the opening set, Bucknell used a 6-0 spurt early in the match to open up a 10-3 lead. The Bison led 18-10 at one point before Colgate promptly scored six unanswered points to cut the lead to 18-16. Bucknell would re-group, however, and outscore the Raiders 12-6 down the stretch for a 30-22 opening set victory.
The Bison led 27-22 late in the second set, but Colgate came back with a 7-2 surge to tie the game at 29-29. Bucknell held off the Raiders in the end, however, scoring the final two points to win the set 31-29.
Colgate did not go away in the third set, and trailed just 13-12 early on before a 10-4 Bucknell run extended the Bison's lead to 23-16. Bucknell went on to take the third set 30-22 to complete a 3-0 sweep.
Senior Whitney Williams posted a match-high 30 assists for Bucknell, while senior Angela Gano threw in a match-high nine digs. Senior Kerri Bishop led all players with three service aces.
Senior Michelle Mahaney paced Colgate with a match-high five blocks (one solo) to go with nine kills.
Bucknell remains at home this weekend to face Patriot League opponent Army at 7 p.m. on Friday and Holy Cross at the same time on Saturday.
