Lewisburg, Pa. --- The Bucknell men and women claimed first place in a scoring meet held at Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Bison men posted seven first-place finishes and scored a team total of 93 points, outdistancing runner-up St. Joseph's (46) by more than doubling their point total. The Bucknell women had 11 irst-place showings, and finished with 103 points, besting runner-up Maryland-Eastern Shore by more than 50 points.
In addition to the seven event titles by the Bison men, one individual placed on the school's all-time Top-10 performers chart. Freshman Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) bettered his previous time in the 200-meter dash of 22.55 set earlier this season by crossing the finish line in a blazing time of 22.20. This time moves him up into the second slot all-time and is also fast enough to qualify him for IC4A's.
The women had four individuals place on the all-time performances in chart. Freshman pole-vaulter Abigail Bouzan-Kalooustia (Orrington, Maine/Brewer) moved up into a tie for second place on the all-time charts when she cleared a height of 10'4". Her vault was not only good enough to move her up on the Bucknell charts but it also earned the Bison a victory in the pole vault. Sophomore Charity Brady (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) finished the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.41, seven hundredths better than her previous PR. Brady remains in the sixth place position in the all-time record books while classmate LaTonya McSwain (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken) finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.56, moving her into sixth place all-time. Rounding out the record breakers on the women's team was Khadija Shariff (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby), winning the 500-meter dash at a 1:17.15 clip, the third best time on the Bucknell charts.
The men's and women's track & field teams will host the annual Bucknell-Hershey Relays and a plethora of schools next weekend, on Friday and Saturday, January 12-13 in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
