LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's basketball player Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) recorded the first triple-double of her career, tallying game-highs in points (21), rebounds (10), and assists (10), in leading the Bison to an 82-74 victory over Cleveland State in Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 3.
Bucknell jumped out to a 12-5 lead just five minutes into the contest and would never look back. The Vikings cut the Orange and Blue to four twice in the frame, the second time coming with 9:54 to go and Bucknell leading 24-20. A 7-0 run put the Bison up 31-20 with 6:37 remaining, but the Vikings would not let down and responded with an 8-3 spurt of their own to get within six at 34-28 with 4:26 to go in the frame. BU closed the half outscoring Cleveland State 7-2 to enter the intermission with a 41-30 lead.
Freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) led all scorers at halftime with 11 points, while junior Vicki Quimby (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) added 10 at the break.
In the second frame, Bucknell used its hot shooting to hold off the Vikings, despite being outscored 44-41 in the half. After a 16-4 Bison run increased the lead to 19, 65-46, Cleveland State slowly chipped away over a 4:30 minute span to get within six behind a 16-3 run of its own (68-62). The Bison, however, went to the foul line 13 times over the next 4:00 minutes, connecting on 10 shots to hold on for the eight-point victory.
Creamer, whose rebounds and assists were both career-highs, was one of five Bucknell players in double-figures for the game. All five starters reached double digits with Almind adding 19 points, Quimby chipping in 16 markers, and sophomore Kate Franks (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) and junior Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) adding 13 and 11 points, respectively. Quimby was one rebound shy of her fifth double double of the season, pulling down nine caroms.
Cleveland State was led by Mahogany Green's 16 points and eight rebounds. The Vikings fall to 6-6 on the year.
The Bison snap a two-game skid with the victory and improve to 8-3 on the season. The Orange and Blue remain undefeated in Davis Gymnasium, and put that record to the test on Saturday, January 6, against Cornell at 1:00 p.m.
