Lewisburg, Pa. --- Junior setter Whitney Williams (LaJolla, Calif./LaJolla) finished the 2000 season tied for 26th in the nation with 0.50 aces per game. Williams helped lead the volleyball team back to a Patriot League Championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2000.
As the setter on the court, Williams plays the role of court general and she was nothing short of excellent in 2000. Williams' season best for aces in a match was seven in a three-set victory at Lafayette. Along with her 0.50 aces per game, Williams led the conference in assist per game (10.22) and was solid defensively in the backcourt, averaging 2.35 digs per game.
Williams finished the 2000 campaign as a member of the Patriot League Second Team the primary holder of several Bucknell records. In a match at Holy Cross, Williams recorded 61 assists to shatter the previous single-contest record of 53 assists. Williams finished the 2000 season with 1175 assists, setting a new season standard for set assists. Entering her senior year, Williams is currently second all-time in assists with 1985.
Williams was one of only two Patriot League players to finish the season ranked nationally in a statistical category. She will return in 2001 with a strong nucleus of players as Bucknell only loses two to graduation.
