Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of November in Basketball.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, December 4. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. Other winners for the month of November, as selected by the respective coaches, included junior Christina Crowe in cross country, junior Andrea Nyce in indoor track and field, and senior Megan Jones in swimming and diving.
Almind has quickly made an impact on Coach Fedorjaka's team, establishing herself in a starting role at the guard position. For the season, Almind is averaging a team-high, 20 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding with 5.8 per contest. Twice on the season she has posted 25-point games, including completing a double-double against Hampton by adding 11 rebounds. Almind has won the Patriot League Rookie-of-the-Week honors for the first three weeks of the season and was a member of the All-Tournament team at the Cornell Classic (12/1-12/2).
The basketball team is currently 5-1 on the season, with their only setback coming at the hands of Cornell. Previous to the Cornell defeat, Bucknell had started the season on a five game winning streak. The Bison were predicted to finish second in the Patriot League in the preseason coaches' poll.
