Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -- Freshman Desiree Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) equalled her career-high with 25 points to lead Bucknell to a 68-55 victory over Marist this evening. The win pushed the Bison's record to 4-0 for the first time since the 1986-87 season.
The Bison took control in the contest early, leading by as many as 17 in the opening half before Marist closed the gap to nine at the break, 36-27. Bucknell began the second half in much the same fashion, holding the Red Foxes scoreless for the first five minutes to build the league back to 17 at 44-27.
However, Marist would not quit. They battled to within seven points twice in the second half before Almind put the game out of reach by scoring seven of Bucknell's final 12 points.
Junior Vicki Quimby (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) and sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) each contributed 17 points in the contest. Quimby tallied her second straight double-double with 10 rebounds in the game, and in the process topped the 500 rebound mark for her career (has 501).
Bucknell will be in action again on Friday, December 1, when it travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to take part in the Cornell Classic. The Bison will face Niagara on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then play either Central Connecticut State or Cornell on Saturday.
